An upstairs window, as pictured throughout this article, was my favorite location because I could simply grab the camera from the window to recharge it. To this day, I think the addition of a built-in battery is one of the features that makes the new Nest Cam such a good product because it allows for so much flexibility in the installation. The primary source of battery drain was live viewing, where I noticed that around 10-15 minutes spent livestreaming the camera feed to a phone or Nest Hub would result in around 1-2% of battery drain. I found that battery life could last up to about one month on a charge, but I averaged around 2.5 weeks during that testing period. I ran the Nest Cam (battery) in an outdoor, driveway setting during the months of September and October entirely on battery power, and Google’s varied estimates certainly proved true.

Google rates the battery life at a few weeks to a few months depending on usage. For one, it means you can put this camera virtually anywhere. That starts with a built-in battery, which is good for two purposes. To kick things off, let’s talk about the two biggest upgrades Google is delivering in its new camera. This review has been updated to reflect usage of the Nest Cam (Battery) and Nest Cam Floodlight between Augand DecemLocal storage and battery power are compelling upgrades Is it a worthwhile upgrade? Let’s dig in. After several years, Google is finally refreshing its Nest Cam lineup with the arrival of a brand-new lineup that’s headlined by the Nest Cam (battery). Google’s Nest lineup has long been among the best in this arena even though it comes at a cost. “Garbage in – garbage out” as the saying goes.Do-it-yourself home security has been the way to go for many, with the costs of cameras and other smart home gear coming down and getting more reliable. Yeah, you can always fix most things in post-production, but if you get it right from the beginning your images can go from amazing to exquisite. It’s helped me take my shooting more seriously – to worry more about getting it right in camera. It forced me to slow down, enjoy the process, and use best practices when shooting – and it brought me back to what’s important – the image.Ĭapture One Pro is all about your images – it provides the highest quality raw conversion, color profiles, and image processing you can get. But who wouldn’t want the ability to remove all the dust on your sensor in your shots in one quick step instead of clicking with the spot removal tool one hundred times? Yep, Capture One Pro does that. Since I still don’t shoot with tech cameras or wide-angle lenses on digital backs very often, it’s not a selling point for me. Yet when I saw the color cast removal of the LCC tool, I was impressed. I had never heard of Lens Cast Correction prior to working at Capture Integration since I didn’t work much with tech cameras. Nothing met the features, ease-of-use, or stability that I still find in Capture One Pro for tethering.

CAPTURE ONE PRO 9 REVIEW SOFTWARE
Once I graduated college and began Digital Teching, Capture One Pro was by far the industry standard of the software I found on photographers’ laptops – even when shooting with DSLR cameras. I have shot tethered with almost every program out there that tethers your camera – Capture One Pro, Adobe Lightroom, Canon EOS Utility, Apple Aperture, just to name a few. Pair this feature with the ability to select and process multiple recipes at the same time, and now my output step is one easy button to generate all my output needs. I realized I could also do this using recipes in Capture One Pro, but eventually switched the recipes to process to the Session’s Output folder to save me the step of moving the files later. I liked how Adobe Lightroom would let you save Export Presets that had designated output folders, and used what I learned from the DAM book to output everything to my Pickup Destination folder for easy location and re-filing.
